Misfit Shine Fitness Tracker

As part of my New Year's Resolution to be healthier and try and tone up in time for my summer holiday I have started using the new Misfit Shine fitness tracker. It is a fitness monitor that can be worn on the wrist, as a necklace or anywhere on the body that tracks walking and sleeping patterns and tracks all the information back to an app on your phone. Plus it is entirely waterproof so can be worn in the shower and while swimming!

All the information is stored in this little disk, which can you can clip onto your clothes or wear on your wrist.

Once you have got the Shine out of the packaging and inserted the battery, you download the app to your phone and sync the Shine to it (the instructions state you need to put the disk on your phone but it actually can just be near the phone as it uses bluetooth to connect) then voila you are ready to go! The app sets you targets of how many steps you need to take per day and you just tap on the shine throughout the day and it will light up to show you how close to reaching your target you are! What's great is it can also monitor how long you sleep for - you just tap on it three times to let it know you are going to sleep and tap on it again when you wake up and it will track how many hours of deep sleep you had. The Shine will also let you know how many calories you have burnt throughout the day.

I'm not entirely sure how accurate the tracker is but it certainly helps to give me a rough estimate of how much exercise I am doing each day and it keeps me motivated as I can see how close I am to reaching my target! I am no expert on fitness monitors and it seems there are a lot on the market at the moment but since using it I have felt even more motivated to keep active. I love how discreet it is - I usually clip to the waist of my skirt or trousers at work and it is so light I forget I'm wearing it!

Origins Mega-Bright Skin tone correcting serum

I have been on the hunt for a good day time serum for a while and this one is absolutely perfect! It is part of the Dr Andrew Weil for Origins range, which help to brighten skin and reduce discolouration.

I suffer from very dull skin and it is very uneven because of acne scarring from when I had terrible skin as a teenager, which has left my face quite marked. This serum is perfect for anyone with discolouration, UV damage, age spots or blemish marks on their skin as it helps to brighten and improve skin tone.

I love using it in the day time before moisturiser as it makes the perfect base for foundation - it keeps my skin soft without overly moisturising it and making it greasy. It can be used morning and night and you only need a pea sized amount!

It comes out as a very thin, translucent liquid that is instantly absorbed into the skin. I love Origins products and am always impressed whenever I try out something new from the range and so far this serum has not disappointed. If you're looking for a general everyday serum that isn't too thick I'd definitely recommend this one! It is a little expensive for £48 but as you only need to use a tiny amount daily it will last you a long time!

Kiehl's Powerful Wrinkle Reducing Cream

Kieh's Powerful Wrinkle Reducing Cream is a moisturiser that can be used morning and evening to reduce the appearance of existing lines and wrinkles and prevent new ones forming! It has been made with copper, which reinforces the skin barrier and give it a healthy appearance.

I am a huge fan of Kiehl's skincare and fell in love with them when I attended an event at the Nottingham store last year. If you haven't tried anything by them yet I recommend you visit your nearest store and try them out - the staff are always so helpful and can offer skin consultations and recommend products for you. A lot of people can often be reluctant to fork out for Kiehl's products as they are a tad expensive but I can honestly say they are so worth it and they will last you a lifetime - I bought a bottle of the Midnight Recovery Concentrate at the beginning of last year and am only just halfway through the bottle!

Despite only being 21 one of my key skin priorities is to try and prevent ageing as early as possible. I have very dry skin so lines have started to form around my eyes and all those years of long nights at uni have started to take their toll on my face so I am firm believer that prevention is better than cure when it comes to wrinkles!

This moisturiser almost looks like butter in the pot, it is a very thick texture, but as soon as I put my hands in to get some product out it was so smooth to the touch and applied really easily to my skin. It isn't greasy or heavy at all and just feels so soft and moisturising on my skin. I have been wearing it morning and night and keeps my skin really hydrated. I did go through a small patch where my skin started to break out a bit so I decided to just use this in the evening instead as I was worried the moisturiser could be causing it but it seems to have calmed down now.

This moisturiser costs £42 but I can tell this will last me a long time as you only need to use the tiniest amount daily to get amazing results. My skin is so much smoother since using it and my pores are less visible!

Sleek CC Cream and Eyebrow Stylist

This week I tested out the CC Cream and Eyebrow Stylist from Sleek Make Up. Sleek isn't a brand I often by from but I have read great reviews of their products so I was looking forward to trying them out.

Admittedly I'm still not entirely sure what the difference is between BB Creams and CC Creams (I have a feeling light CC Creams are slightly more like a foundation as they are a bit thicker and provide better coverage?) But this one helps to boost radiance and mattify shine. It contains Vitamin C and SPF 29 (I know, a bit of a random number!)

The cream comes in four shades: fair, light, medium and dark. I got light and was a little worried when I put some on the back of my hand that it might be a bit too dark but it was in fact the perfect shade for me. It was really bendable and provided medium coverage. I just applied a little bit to my face with my fingers and it covered up my blemishes instantly! This CC Cream costs £8.99

The dual-ended eyebrow stylist comes in three shades: light, medium and dark and comes with an angled pencil on one end and a brush on the other, to help groom brows into place. I love that the pencil is angled, it makes it so much easier to use as it follows your natural brow shape, and it is a really creamy, matte texture so looks nice and natural. Admittedly I am pretty lazy when it comes to my eyebrows and often worry that they will look odd if I fill them in, as I have very light eyebrows, but I was really impressed with this! It is such a handy tool to keep in your makeup bag and take on the go, plus it's great for just £5.99!

Here I am wearing the CC Cream and Eyebrow Stylist. As you can see it creates a really natural look but the products can easily be built up and used to create different looks! As it gets closer to summer I will be switching my foundation to CC Cream as it is a lot lighter and will hopefully let my skin breathe a bit more!

Have you tried either of these products before? What do you think of them?

Primark Summer Haul!

Summer may be a long way off but the sun is finally starting to creep out and I am now counting down the days until my summer holiday (only 124 days to go...) I've now realised that booking my holiday early was in fact a big mistake because now whenever I go shopping I look at something and think 'that'll be perfect for holiday' and end up buying a load of stuff in advance, which has happened recently! I bought myself two news bikinis from ASOS and did a big haul in Primark today so I thought I would share with you some of the things I bought...

Beach towel £6, sunglasses £1 each, flip flops £1 Primark.

I don't actually own a beach towel as mine somehow got thrown away when my Mum had a huge clear out when I moved home from uni so I thought I would get myself one. I always buy myself cheap sunglasses from Primark rather than investing in a decent pair as they usually end up getting lost, broken or covered in sand so I bought myself two pairs today and I thought these flip flops were really cute and perfect for wearing by the pool.

Sandals £12.99 ASOS
These sandals are not only gorgeous but they are so comfortable and really practical. It can be difficult walking in flip flops when you're going on a long walk or round the town but these sandals support your feet and are so easy to walk in. They have elasticated straps so they don't rub on your feet and the crossover straps are a cute detail.

Shorts £4 Primark
These shorts are a really thin material so they are nice and loose and easy to move around in, perfect for the warmer weather! They are really great value and I will be popping back to Primark soon to pick up some more designs as they are so comfortable.

Bikini £4 Primark
On to the bikinis! I must point out that finding a bikini is always really difficult for me as I have never felt confident wearing one because I am very small busted, but I am really happy that I have managed to pick some up this year that fit me really well. Primark have some great bikinis in at the moment so go and check them out if you haven't already. The first one I picked up was this bandeau set and it was only £4! I love the colour and the aztec print.

Bikini £10 Primark
I also picked up this navy crochet bandeau set which was £10 (£6 for the top and £4 for the bottoms). Bandeau tops aren't always that flattering on me but I prefer them for sunbathing in.

Bikini £15 ASOS

I also picked up this pink crochet triangle bikini from Marie Melli at ASOS. Triangle shaped tops are more flattering for small busted women as it gives the illusion of shape and I love the bright colour of this one.

Bikini top £9 ASOS
Last but not least I bought this halter bikini top from ASOS. The thing I love most about this is I could actually order it to my bra size rather just Small, medium, large or 8,10,12 etc so it fits perfectly and the moulded cups don't make me look entirely flat chested when I wear it! The black colour is a bit plain but the shape of this is so flattering, I can't wait to wear it to the beach and it will be a lot more practical for swimming in!

Have you picked up any summer purchases recently? Leave links below so I can check out what you have all been buying!

Daily Detox Kit from Ayurveda Pura

I have never done a detox before but at the end of January I made a decision that I would start eating healthier and exercising more as part of my mission to get fitter for summer. I have been looking for products that can assist with this and help me along my way and I thought I would try out the new Daily Detox Kit from Ayurveda Pura.

Ayurveda Pura offers a range of 'Natural Wellbeing Survival Kits', including the Rise & Shine Kit, Timeless Beauty Kit, Get Fit Kit, Calm Your Mind Kit, Anti Hangover Kit and Stay Sharp Kit. The kits all contain 100% natural products that help you maintain a healthy and balanced life without any hassle!

I chose the Daily Detox Kit (£26.95) which contains Detox Herbal Tea,Chyawanprash Natural Herbal Food Supplement and a Daily Detox Mix. The kit comes beautifully packaged with a cotton bag to keep the products in.

About the products

Detox Herbal Tea: The tea is a unique blend of natural ingredients that help to gently flush out toxins and clear the energy channels, improve metabolism and stimulate the mind and body. It contains ginger root, lemongrass, lemon peel and orange peel. The kit contains 35 tea bags.

Chyawanprash: This is a natural food supplement that is made using more than 30 fruits and herbs. It is a sweet, tangy jam and can be eaten straighten off the spoon, spread on toast or added to a herbal tea or mixed with warm milk. The kit advises to take 1-2 tea spoons of it twice a day.

I had never heard of Chyawanprash before receiving this kit so was very intrigued to see what it was like. I had a little peek in the jar and have to admit it does not look that appetising - it is a very sticky, brown substance - but I tasted a little bit off my finger and the taste was not unpleasant at all, the only way I can describe it is like a herbal jam. Have you ever been inside Holland & Barratt and noticed it has a distinct smell? It tastes just like the smell of the shop. I don't think I'll have any problem eating this off the spoon as you only have to take one to two tea spoonfuls a day so it is hardly any and I think it could taste quite pleasant in warm water.

Daily Detox Mix: This is a powder made from super foods including cinammon and ginger that is dissolved in warm water or herbal tea.

How to use the kit

The kit does not state how long you should detox for, so I assume I will just use the products until they run out! However, the instructions are very simple:

Morning routine: Start off the day with the herbal tea followed by two spoonfuls of Chyawanprash and one teaspoon of the food mix.

During the day: Drink plenty of the detox tea, especially after snacks and meals

Evening routine: Once again take Chyawanprash in hot water and one teaspoon of the food mix just before bedtime.

The kit also advises you to focus on liquid foods such as soups and stews while you are detoxing. From my first impressions I am really impressed with the kit, it makes the whole detox process really simple as you don't have to faff around with loads of different products and there's no complicated dietary plan to go with it. I love the bag that comes with it too and it will make it really easy to keep everything together.

I will be starting my detox tomorrow and will post my progress as I go along and at the end of it to see if these products work! Have you ever done a detox before or used similar products to help you with weight loss? I would love to know your thoughts and whether detox worked for you.

REVIEW: Laurens Way Darker than Dark Glam Tan

Laurens Way Darker Than Dark Glam Tan £19.95 250ml with free mitt

Before, directly after application, after showering the next morning

After all the bad weather we've been having recently my skin was starting to look very washed out and in need of a pick me up so I decided it was time to tan! This was my first time trying a tan by Laurens Way. Admittedly if I was in a shop this wouldn't have normally been my first choice as I know that pretty much every character from TOWIE now has their own tanning range and I do wonder if it's any good o if it's all just a gimmick or business venture of theirs. Having said that, I have seen Laurens Way featured on a lot of blogs and have read some really good reviews of it so I was looking forward to giving it a go!

Darker than Dark Glam Tan is the latest product in the Laurens Way range. I have a lot of fake tans in my collection and they all range in colours, during the Winter I sometimes go for a lighter shade but most of the time I like to use a darker colour as it means I don't have to faff around with regular application and building up a colour, I prefer to just apply it once and have a deep tan that I don't have to top up for about a week. I was a little worried about that 'Darker than Dark' would be wayyy too dark for my pale skin but it was actually the perfect shade.

The tan is so easy to apply, it comes in a pump spray bottle and I spritzed it straight onto my skin then rubbed it in with a tanning mitt (you can also spray it onto the mitt first and rub it in to your skin, whatever you find easier!) Personally, spray bottles are my favourite type of tan as I find mousses make my skin too dry and lotions can often be a bit sticky and take too long to dry. This tan didn't streak at all and the colour guide made it really easy to see where you were applying the tan and if you missed any patches. It also didn't take too long to dry which is always a bonus and I could put my pjs on and get into bed straight after!

Unlike some fake tans, such as St Tropez and Vita Liberta which are very brown, this had a golden olivey town to it which I thought helped add a nice glow to the skin. When I went into work the day after applying this someone actually asked me if I had been away on holiday (this is the first time that's happened since I started wearing fake tan!) which was a lovely compliment. If you like to have a dark tan this is perfect for you.

The tan lasted on me for about five days before it started to fade. I'm always pretty lazy when I fake tan and forget to moisturise after but it's really important you do because my skin started to go a bit patchy after a while. Overall I was surprised at how impressed I was by this tan and I am looking forward to using it again in the future. I can tell this will be my go-to tan for the summer! The only negative for me was that the white bottle did get a bit dirty after using it as some of the product sprayed onto it so I had to wipe it with a tissue after.

You can purchase Laurens Way tanning products from or from Superdrug stores.

My favourite firming and toning products

Up until recently I never used firming lotions on my body as I didn't see the point of them and thought they were a bit of a con but since using them I cannot recommend them enough as I have seen such as improvement in the tone and texture of my skin.

Every morning I use bliss fat girl six pack. This is a tummy-targeting gel and costs around £30. The great thing I love about this is it has a bobbly applicator at the top which helps massage the gel into your body and stimulate blood circulation. In the evenings I use Nip + Fab Tummy Fix Gel. This is a lot cheaper and costs around £15. The formula is very similar to the Bliss fat girl six pack but I find it makes my stomach area a lot smoother.

Finally I use Soap & Glory Sit Tight on my thighs. This also has a rollerball applicator so it is great for helping to improve cellulite and it tingles as I apply it. As you move around you can feel the product working and tightening your skin.

The important thing to remember is that these products aren't miracle workers, they don't magically give you a six pack or a perky behind, but if you use them alongside regular exercise and healthy eating you will notice a difference in the texture and appearance of your skin. My stomach is my most hated body part but since applying these firming gels it is a lot smoother.

Have you used any of these products before? Do you use firming lotions on your body?

My Daily Skincare

With the terrible weather we've been having recently my skin has started to look very dull and tired so the skincare products I'm using at the moment are helping to perk it up a bit! These are the products I have been using daily recently

Nspa is one of my favourite skincare brands as it is such good value. The hot cloth polish is very similar to the Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish and is really moisturising which is good for my dry skin. After moisturising I apply Clarins Liquid Bronze - a non-tinted lotion that gradually adds a nice healthy glow to my skin - and on days when I'm looking particularly pale I mix in a bit of L'oreal Sublime Bronze as well as this adds a tinted glow while building a tan underneath.

Liz Earle Superskin is my all time favourite moisturiser. It is recommended for mature skin but I have very dry skin so it is perfect for me and makes my skin so smooth. I've also been using Soap & Glory Puffy Eye Attack, it is a great gel that helps to perk up the skin under my eyes and keep it supple.

In the evenings I like to keep my under-eye area really hydrated so I use Korres eye cream to help brighten the eye area and reduce any fine lines that can often occur in the evening from all the cleansing when I take my makeup off! I'm very prone to spots but have been using Clean & Clear's spot treatment gel overnight and it really does help to significantly reduce spot size and clear up any nasty pimples

Nails Inc Gel Effect Polishes

I love gel nail polishes as I think they are such good quality and make your nails look really shiny and classy. Recently I have been very lazy with my nails and not painted them as much but when nails inc recently released a range of gel polishes I thought I would give them a go.

All of the gel nail polishes are £14 each and I picked up the shades (l-r) Mayfair Lane, Mercer Street and Downtown. My favourite so far has to be Mayfair Lane - a gorgeous nude baby pink colour.

I used the bright pink colour on my toes about two weeks ago and it has only just started to chip so I am very impressed at how long lasting it is.

Sorry for the bad picture - I was in a rush and didn't have time to tidy up the smudges! But this gives you an idea of what the nail polish looks like and the shine that comes with it. I've been wearing the nude shades at work and can't wait for summer so I can start wearing the brighter colours more regularly!

My mission to get fit for summer

Like every other woman on this planet, I made a New Year's Resolution to get fitter and eat healthier. For many, this is something they try and fail at year after year, however I had never made this a New Year's Resolution before as I knew I wouldn't stick to it - but this year I am determined to!

Invested in some new trainers!

I have always been a healthy weight so losing weight wasn't really an issue for me, I have just always eaten quite an unhealthy diet and not really bothered with exercise so I wanted to eat better, look after myself a bit more and tone up! My motivation is higher than ever at the moment as I have recently booked a summer holiday to Turkey in July so am determined to be in better shape by the time I arrive. My main focus is my stomach and I have never felt confident in a bikini so hopefully by July I will be summer-body ready!

Determined to look better in a bikini this year!

The first step I took towards getting a better body was joining a gym. I don't use the actual gym equipment that much as I get a bit self-conscious going in the gym but I have made an effort to go to classes around five times a week and start swimming as well.

Changing my eating habits
Secondly I've tried to stop eating so much crap!! I'll admit I am a carb lover and used to snack a lot as well but recently I have tried to cut out a lot of the wheat-heavy meals I used to eat like pasta and opt for salads instead. I usually have porridge for breakfast, a salad for lunch and soup with a bread roll for dinner before going to the gym.
