My evening skin care routine

I use a lot more skincare products on my face in the evenings than I do during the day. For me, mornings are all about having a clean base ready for the day but at night time I need to thoroughly remove my makeup and any other grime that has built up throughout my day, moisturise and prepare my skin to nourish itself overnight and ready for the day ahead.

Firstly I remove my makeup with Merumaya Melting Cleansing Balm (£15.50). Unlike other cleansing balms which come in a tub and often have a solid-to-liquid formula, this thick liquid comes in a handy squeezy tube making it a lot easier to apply. This melts on to the skin and is extremely moisturising, perfect for dry skin types. Add a little water and it turns into a milk, dissolving makeup. I usually then follow this up with a gentle face-wash, such as the Nivea Daily Face Wash to make sure all product is removed.

A few times a week I will also use the Nib + Fab Glycolic Fix Night Pads (£14.95). Before getting these I hadn't used many Nip + Fab products before but have seen all of their ranges posted over Instagram and on blogs - I know Kylie Jenner is also the face of Nib + Fab!

This handy tub contains 60 pads soaked in glycolic acid, salicylic acid, lactic acid and hyalyronic acid. It sounds a little extreme but these help to refine pores and de-congest the skin by lightly exfoliating. The gycolic acid exfoliates and helps fade discolouration, salicylic acid combats black heads and blemishes, lactic acid removes toxins from the skin and hyalyronic acid improves hydration. I swear by these for an added deep cleanse or when my skin needs perking up a little - but they are strong so I will only use them two or three times a week!

After cleansing I then use Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate serum (£36). I don't often refer to products as being my 'holy grail' ones but I make an exception for this - I have used it daily for the last two years and swear by it! (I did a review back in 2013 which you can see here but sadly my pictures got deleted!) This magical bottle replenishes my skin and keeps it moisturised all night long to help prevent ageing. You only need to use around 2-3 drops per night, so a little goes a long way and a bottle will last you well into the year.

Finally I follow up my serum with a night cream. I'm currently using Korres Wild Rose Advanced Repair Sleeping Facial (£26). If you haven't heard of Korres before I would recommend trying them out - they are a Greek brand and produce all natural products. This particular night cream is designed to work as an overnight facial - intense hydrating the skin while you sleep.

I think it is very important to use a night cream in the evening rather than a regular moisturiser so that your skin can restore moisture over night, as a lot of day moisturisers are quite light. This Korres night cream has a lovely velvety texture and is boosted with Vitamin C so my skin looks brighter and smoother when I wake up!

Do you have any of these products in your skincare routine? What products do you like to use in the evenings?

  3. I don't think some people realise how important having a skincare routine is. I shudder when people say "oh I slept in last night's makeup." Never heard of these brands before so it was great to pop onto your blog for a surprise recommendation.

    Lovely post.
