WeTRAIN
We Train is a new fitness concept based on group personal training. Currently based in Clapham and Brixton (ideal for the South West London millenials!) there are a variety of sessions available that allow groups of friends to socialise while working out, at a fraction of the cost of one-on-one personal training.
These aren’t your average, mundane PT sessions. Think yoga, HIIT, outdoor bootcamps and Barre. There are flexible sessions to fit around your schedule, all hosted by London’s best health & fitness instructors, and you can set your own pace.
Plus they donate a percentage of their fees to the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust, which works to empower young people through sport, so you’re doing some good by booking on to a session!
I went along to We Train’s launch event in Brixton last week and had so much fun trying out Fit for Function with Elle and Barre with Hilary.
BOOMCycle
A
spinning class like no other, BOOMCycle is all about the bike, beats, and Boom! Going into my
first class felt more like going into an underground rave, with the lights down
low and candles ignited, the room is transported into a party atmosphere and
you can solely focus on what you are doing as you aren’t even aware of the
people around you.
While frantically pedaling my legs as
fast as I could I was surprised when the instructor suddenly shouted ‘Now pick
up your dumbbells’. That’s right, there are two dumbbells placed either side of
the bike and halfway through the class some arm and core exercises are incorporated,
creating a fun HIIT workout that works your whole body from head to toe.
Each class is said to burn between
400-700 calories, dependant on how hard the individual drives themselves with
the resistance (instructors don’t say how many turns to make or how high to
have the intensity it is purely driven from self motivation).
Hula Fit
One
of the funnest ways to work your core and not a sit-up in sight! Hula hooping
is a great way to tone tummies while improving strength and burning calories.
In
a typical class you will spin a hoop on your hips while taking part in various routines
including jogging, jumping, squatting and spinning around to enhance balance,
posture and poise. You learn to hoop on various parts of your body while
constantly working your core muscles, obliques, glutes and thighs. You’ll be
surprised how much you ache afterwards!
You
will burn anything from 400 to 600 calories in one hour-long session.
Bella Kinesis Run Like a Girl Running Club (Free!)
If
you’re looking to practice your running skills but don’t feel ready to join a regular
running group or feel intimidated running alongside the hardcore athletes,
Bella Kinesis’ monthly run is ideal!
It
is a free, monthly 5k run for ladies starting at London Bridge. You can go completely
at your own pace as the members re-group everyone couple of bridges to ensure no
one is left behind.
Everyone
gathers for a drink afterwards and there are snacks to refuel from Health Box
Kitchen too!
