The Body Shop Matte Lip Liquids

The Body Shop Matte Lip Liquids

The Body Shop Matte Lip Liquids

When I think of The Body Shop I don't immediately think of makeup - more fruity smelling body butters, but they have really been upping their game recently with their new releases. So I was so excited when the latest addition to their makeup range, these Matte Lip Liquids, launched last year. Strangely I never really got on the matte lip hype (still yet to buy any Nyx products..)  so this seemed like the perfect time to try!

Visiting Rush Hair, Holborn

Rush has recently opened a new hair salon in Holborn, London, offering fabulous blowdrys, cuts and colour services.

The salon opened in December and, after previously visiting their flagship salon in Piccadilly last year, I was excited to see what the new branch had to offer.

Books To Help You Smash 2017

I don't want to dwell on negativity too much but, let's be honest, 2016 was terrible. Which is why 2017 is all about the year of inspiration, working hard and looking after myself. This year I am focusing on number one and every year I set myself a New Year's Resolution to try and read more books. Each night I set aside some time before bed to relax and drift off with a good read, so while I'm feeling motivated and all about accomplishing goals I thought I'd take a look at some of the books I'll be reading to help me along my way...

Sale Shopping Haul

This year I said I was going to avoid the Christmas sales, I hate busy shopping centres at the best of times, but somehow I ended up doing a whole lot of shopping this week - and in fact was pretty pleased with the things I got!

Reading List

Forever trying, and failing, to spend more time away from the internet I have set myself a New Year's resolution to read more books this year. As well as stocking up on some new books I have also dug out a few that have been sitting on my shelf untouched for a while...

The Stylist - Rosie Nixon: I actually started reading this last year but unfortunately I am the world's slowest reader and it takes me an age to get through a book. Author Rosie Nixon is editor of Hello! magazine. Her book, The Stylist tells the story of a normal girl from London who is thrown into the glamorous world of fashion to work with a celebrity stylist in LA.

Us - David Nicholls: I have read 'One Day' by David Nicholls and heard good things about his latest book so decided to add it to my shelf as an easy read. It tells the story of Douglas, whose wife Connie announces she will be leaving. He organises a family holiday to try and draw himself, his wife and their son closer. What could possibly go wrong?

The Art of Happiness: A slightly more random choice, I actually picked this up completely by accident when I was buying some books for my Dad's birthday and they were on 3 for 2, along with this one. The Art of Happiness is a book by the Dalai Lama and Howard Cutler, a psychiatrist who posed questions to the Dalai Lama. I'm looking forward to getting some insights into his life and hoping to restore some calm into my own!

Our Man in Havana - Graham Green: Inspired by my trip to Cuba last year I wanted to get a few books based there. Our Man In Havana is a novel set in Cuba, making fun of intelligence services and their willingness to believe reports from their local informants. Wormold is a vacuum cleaner salesman in a city of power cuts. His daughter spends his money with a skill that amazes him, so when a mysterious Englishman offers him an extra income he's tempted. In return all he has to do is carry out a little espionage and file a few reports. But when his fake reports start coming true, things suddenly get more complicated and Havana becomes a threatening place.

Room - Emma Donoghue: I bought this book last year after the film Room came out in cinemas, but as usual I haven't got round to reading it yet! Donoghue conceived the story after hearing about five-year-old Felix in the Fritzl case. The story is told from the perspective of a five-year-old boy, Jack, who is being held captive in a small room along with his mother. Because it is all he has ever known, Jack believes that only the Room is real.

The Diaries of a Fleet Street Fox: While I was working in journalism this book was recommended to me by a colleague. Diaries of a Fleet Street Fox reveals is written anonymously and reveals the inner workings of a tabloid newsroom.

My Favourite Beauty Brands of 2016

Beauty Brands of 2016 (2)

Another year over! As well as posting my December favourites this week, featuring some of my favourite products of the month, I've done a little roundup of some of the brands I loved using overall throughout the whole year...

  1. Korres - A Greek brand of natural hair, body and skin care products that all smell delicious!
  2. Origins - Best known for their range of face masks, their skincare is a cut above the rst
  3. Rodial - Super glam skincare and I was also introduced to their sculpting makeup range this year too
  4. Cover FX - Has every shade available for base makeup and complexion perfection
  5. Urban Decay - Always a firm favourite I explored more of Urban Decay's makeup range this year and became obsessed with their Vice lipsticks
  6. The Body Shop - The Body Shop have really upped their game this year and their fresh face masks and vegan foundations were high on my favourites list
  7. NARS - One that I'd like to try more of next year, I adore NARS' high end makeup especially their berry lip colours
  8. Spectrum - I got my first set of Spectrum makeup brushes this year and can't wait to expand my collection next year. They have seriously beautiful brushes in a range of different designs
  9. Clarins - Clarins always features on my monthly favourites. Their Flash Beauty Balm is a cult classic but I have become more fond of their makeup ranges and get excited with each new product they bring out
  10. Kiehl's - Where would my skincare routine be without Kiehl's Midnight Recovery Concentrate? I re-purchase it year after year
  11. Stila  - I had never really been into Stila until this year and I am in love with their lip products. From the two in one lip & cheek compacts to the liquid lipsticks in a range of shades
  12. Rituals - Again, this was a fairly new brand for me this year. Rituals' body range feels ultra luxurious but is affordable! their foaming shower gels come in a delicious range of scents and their candles and reed diffusers are relaxing and inviting in the home
